Duty of Vigilance: Members of the European Parliament Act a Relaxation and a Postponement of the Law
The European Parliament adopted a clear easing of the law on the environmental due diligence of large companies and its postponement in 2029 on Tuesday, 16 December, aimed at preventing and remedying human rights violations and environmental damage.
The European Parliament plenary on Tuesday approved the reform to reduce the requirements of sustainability and due diligence that oblige companies to report on the environmental and social impact of their activity, following the principle of agreement reached between the negotiators of the European Parliament and the Council last week.
In mid-November, the European Parliament approved a legislative package that significantly reduces the sustainability reporting requirements for companies. Once the changes come into force, only companies with more than 1,750 employees and an annual turnover of more than €450 million would have to submit sustainability reports.
