The remains of the ancestor Theodor Herzl, the founder of the modern Zionist movement, were escorted from Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport with state honors. After exhumation in Belgrade, they will be transferred to Israel, where they will be reburied in Jerusalem. The ceremony was assessed as an act of historical significance, which confirms the long-standing friendly relations between Serbia and Israel.
Today, the head of Serbian diplomacy of Serbia, Marko Đurić, attended the ceremony of sending off the remains of the ancestors of Theodore Herzl at the Belgrade airport, together with Israel's ambassador to Serbia, Avivit Bar-Ilan, the chairman of the World Zionist Organization, Jacob Hagoel, and the chief rabbi of the Jewish community in Serbia, Isak Asiel.
