Dunbar bursts to brilliant Vuelta a Espana stage win

On Friday, Ireland's Eddie Dunbar won stage 19 of the Vuelta a Espana, attacking solo on the slopes of Penas Blancas after a 211km ride from Velez-Malaga to claim the penultimate mountain stage.
The Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling rider overcame a difficult season after missing nearly four months following an ankle injury sustained when hit by a scooter while riding in Monte Carlo.
Dunbar sparked a 16-rider breakaway 110km from the finish on the Puerto del Viento climb, then reeled in Santiago Buitrago before launching a decisive surge 300 metres from the line to finish 14 seconds clear.
Enric Mas maintained the red jersey, finishing over five minutes behind Dunbar alongside rivals Primoz Roglic, Felix Gall, and Richard Carapaz while preserving his one minute 37 second lead over Roglic.
With only two stages remaining in the 21-stage race, the Spaniard is positioned to end a 12-year wait for a home Vuelta winner, holding a significant advantage over Roglic as the race nears conclusion.
