The initiative, a first for Switzerland, encourages residents to switch from cars to public transport, aiming to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. As temperatures rise, the city's measures restrict the circulation of higher-emission vehicles.
Because of the high heat and the associated ozone pollution, Geneva is reacting: from Wednesday onwards, the city will be off-limits for certain cars – and the speed limits on the motorway will be lowered for all vehicles.
