Due to the extreme drought, the water level of the river in Paks broke all previous records, so intervention was necessary to comply with environmental regulations.
According to Captain István Kapitány, the country's energy supply is secure.
The river is at minus 106 centimeters near Paks.
The reactor 1 of the Cernavod nuclear power plant was stopped on Tuesday at 11:00, due to the very low level of the Danube caused by the severe drought. Nuclear electricity says the measure is a preventive one, to protect the installations, and warns that if the situation gets worse, it could also be stopped.
