In France, drought has a significant impact on biodiversity dependent on rivers and wetlands. The League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) therefore asks to "respond to the opening of the waterfowl hunt" while early hunting is scheduled to begin on Friday, August 21. On August 19, Matignon responded "favourably" to the call, according to the LPO.
Drought and repeated heats are weakening animals. The Bird Protection League (BPL) is calling for the postponement of the opening of the game hunt, which is due to begin on 21 August. An online petition, which calls for a ban on hunting, particularly in areas affected by fires, has already collected nearly 500,000 signatures.
The water game hunt opened this Friday. The League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) had asked to postpone the launch until the end of September, due to the drought and the vulnerability of wildlife.
