For the first time in history, Rijkswaterstaat is closing the Twente Canal. From Saturday, July 25 at 12:00 PM, the locks at Eefde will remain closed indefinitely due to persistent drought. "We were completely taken by surprise," states Anne-Ruth Scheijgrond, who represents the interests of the companies on behalf of port authority Port of Twente.
