2 RCMP Vehicles Hit by Allegedly Impaired Drivers in Separate Crashes
- On May 19 and May 21, two separate incidents involving impaired drivers in Tisdale and Swift Current resulted in damage to Saskatchewan RCMP vehicles, though no injuries were reported.
- The incidents followed reports of erratic driving and a curfew check, leading to impaired driving charges against an adult female in Tisdale and an adult male in Swift Current.
- In the Swift Current crash, the impaired vehicle collided with a parked police cruiser, rendering it undriveable, while the Tisdale incident involved a vehicle reversing into an RCMP vehicle.
- During Canada Road Safety Week from May 13 to 19, enforcement stopped over 6,600 vehicles and resulted in 41 alcohol-related impaired driving charges, 3 drug-related charges, and 59 roadside suspensions for recent alcohol consumption.
- Saskatchewan RCMP traffic chief Grant St. Germaine expressed frustration that impaired driving remains a danger after 33 road deaths this year and urged drivers to plan safe rides or stay sober at home.
