Augusta Woman Arrested for Waterville Crash that Killed DOT Workers
Investigators say the minivan failed to stop at a posted sign before entering the highway, and the crash injured a third worker.
- On Friday, Samantha Tupper, 34, of Augusta, was arrested following her Kennebec County Grand Jury indictment for a January 13 crash that killed two MaineDOT workers in Waterville.
- Investigators determined Tupper failed to stop at a posted sign on the Kennedy Memorial Drive on-ramp, where a tractor-trailer struck her minivan and forced it into an active MaineDOT work zone near mile marker 127 on I-95.
- The collision killed MaineDOT employees James Brown, 60, and Dwayne Campbell, 51, both of Waterville, while a third worker was injured. Two children in Tupper's minivan were uninjured.
- Tupper remains at the Kennebec County Jail pending her court appearance, with bail set at $50,000 cash, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss stated.
- Records show Tupper has a criminal history including convictions for drug possession and theft. MaineDOT honored Brown and Campbell at a February 28 memorial procession from the MaineDOT Fairfield Training Center to the Augusta Civic Center.
