Drewitt-Barlows of Maldon and Tiptree Charged with Trafficking
Essex Police charged the couple with rape, sexual assault and human trafficking offences after a major investigation, and ITV pulled their planned documentary.
On Friday, entrepreneurs Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, 57, and his husband, Scott Drewitt-Barlow, 32, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court after being charged with rape and human trafficking for sexual exploitation.
Essex Police conducted co-ordinated searches Wednesday at properties in Danbury, Maldon, and Braintree, including the couple's Southwood Chase home, the Drewitt-Barlow Stadium, and The Swan pub.
The Crown Prosecution Service charged each man with arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view to exploitation, plus sexual assault and rape of a man 16 or over.
ITV removed the reality series Up The Jammers from its upcoming schedule, cancelling the planned broadcast chronicling the owners' efforts to elevate Maldon and Tiptree Football Club.
Maldon District Council relocated a polling station from the Drewitt-Barlow Stadium to the Blackwater Leisure Centre on Thursday, citing the ongoing investigation as reason for the late administrative change.
