According to the African Development Bank, nearly 600 million people in Africa live in energy poverty, deprived of reliable access to electricity. In many large cities, cuts and floods have become commonplace. This is particularly the case in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where it is difficult to generate enough electricity for a megacities of 17 million inhabitants.
