Nearly five months after their last meeting near Montreux, Switzerland, the Congolese government and the AFC/M23 met again this week. The delegations held discussions for almost seven days, away from public view. The objective: to try to revive a stalled peace process, while fighting continues on the ground. A joint communiqué is expected on August 22.
Doha: a joint statement was issued by representatives of the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and representatives of the Congo River Alliance/M23, Qatar, the United States, the Togolese Republic (as mediator for the African Union), Switzerland and the African Union Commission, on the meetings held in Switzerland from 17 to 21 August, on the implementation of the Doha Framework for a Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
