Dorothea “Dottie Jean” Harris, 74 of Westport passed away at 11:10 p.m. on Saturday August 15, 2026, at her residence. She was born on October 08, 1951, in Greensburg, Indiana the daughter of Danny Bill & Glenda Marlene (Johnston) Carr. Spending the majority of her life in Decatur County; she worked at Randall Textron for thirty years followed by working at South Decatur Elementary, as a custodian for another twenty years. Dorthea enjoyed solving word searches, watching Saturday cartoons, Hallmark Mystery & Lifetime movies. She also  loved dogs; she recently had become quite fond of her granddaughter, Rustie’s dog, Bubbles or as she called her, Babydoll. She and her mom enjoyed flea markets and strolling garage sales; she was always keeping her eyes out for anything horse or unicorn related. Dorothea was a force to be reckoned with but loved her family dearly. She really enjoyed when everyone could be together.

She is survived by her three sons; Raymond (Mary) Harris of Morgantown, Daniel Harris of Columbus, and Joshua Harris of Seymour, two sisters; Susan and Linda Carr, brothers; Albert Carr, Jeff and Terry Foist; her grandchildren; Rustie (Chad Asher) Harris, Raymond Harris Jr., Johnathan (Brianna) Grider, Miranda Harris, and her great – grandchildren; Lucas and Aaliah Fisher, Emmersin and Kamdin Grider, Elijah Colin-Diaz, and Daxton Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Deanna Grider; and her granddaughter, Victoria Grider. Funeral services will be Saturday August 22, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Pastor George Willette will be officiating. Burial will follow at Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday August 22, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.bassgasper.com
