Don’t like Spotify Messages? These two big upgrades could soon change your mind
Spotify's update lets Premium users share real-time listening and send Jam invites via mobile Messages, enhancing social music experiences without physical proximity.
- Adding to Messages, Spotify rolled out opt-in Listening Activity and Request to Jam features, allowing friends to share real-time tracks and invite collaborative sessions.
- Bringing the desktop Friend Activity to mobile, Spotify adds the long-running Friend Activity sidebar to Messages and replaces QR codes and invitation links with Jams requests.
- Users can opt in via Privacy and social settings, choosing which friends see their activity limited to friends you've messaged, while private sessions hide activity and end after six hours.
- A Jam lets two participants add tracks to a shared queue and listen together, while premium users can send Jam invites and free users can join but not initiate.
- Groups are in development for Messages, and Listening Activity and Request to Jam are rolling out now in markets where Messages is available as a staged rollout.
