Honey’s recovery included surgery and rehabilitation, and Critter Crusaders of Cedar Rapids has raised more than $27,000 for her care.
- A German shepherd puppy named Honey walked the stage during Friday's commencement ceremony at Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, celebrating her recovery after being hit by a car on Christmas Eve.
- Laura Bradner, Honey's foster mother, said the puppy was critically injured in Des Moines on Christmas Eve, suffering severe skull and sinus fractures that required intensive care at The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center.
- Critter Crusaders of Cedar Rapids raised more than $27,000 for Honey's care, with founder Jan Erceg noting the nonprofit works directly with doctors on treatment plans while the puppy received rehabilitation five days a week.
- Dan Grooms, the Dr. Stephen G. Juelsgaard Dean of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State, said managing Honey's brain trauma provided graduates a meaningful example of their potential impact: "Fixing fractures, fixing things that they could fix—the most important thing was also trying to understand and manage the brain trauma that had occurred as well."
- Honey remains in the final weeks of rehabilitation and continues to thrive, with Bradner noting, "You can just see it in her eyes that she just loves life.
