The Vosges chamois are now well settled in the Hautes Vosges. There would be between 800 and 1200 individuals in the massif. But this has not always been the case. All are descendants of 11 individuals captured overseas in the Black Forest, and released at the beginning of January 1956, exactly 70 years ago.
