DNR wildlife manager details how nature was impacted by Bemidji storm
Bemidji and surrounding areas lost an estimated 9 million trees due to a storm in June 2025, causing significant damage including to a Minnesota DNR wildlife manager's property.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has been engaged in salvage cutting, clearing trails, and removing fallen trees on state forest lands to support recovery and outdoor activities.
Some areas, such as wildlife management zones, have been left for nature to heal naturally, benefiting soil and creating habitats for various species.
The DNR reports no significant population-scale impacts on wildlife, viewing the storm as a beneficial reset that increases forest diversity and aids species like whitetail deer.
