The Dutch central bank (DNB) has moved about 86 tonnes of gold out of the United States and Canada to...
The Central Bank of the Netherlands has decided to transfer an important part of its gold reserves to London, on the basis of increased geopolitical tensions. The institution says that gold held in the British capital can be traded and mobilised more quickly in the event of a possible crisis.
Some of the Dutch gold reserves will be in London in the future. 86 tonnes will change from the North American site, with the central bank expecting more flexibility in times of crisis.
The movement was carried out in part by buying and selling operations, and by physical transport. Specifically, more than 27 tons of physical gold were transferred from the United States and Canada to the Netherlands before reaching London.
The institution explains that it wants to be more agile if needed, in a complex geopolitical context. Half of the country's reserves were previously kept overseas.
