We entered Fresnes's arrest house, in Val-de-Marne, one of the oldest in France, at a time when prison is at the heart of the government's security policy. Insalubriity, overpopulation, infestation of rats or bed bugs... The conditions of imprisonment of prisoners, and of the work of the overseers, have led to several convictions in the state, but the renovation, announced at great noises for years, is still waiting.
