Atlanta Dream Trio of Angel Reese, Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray Among All-Star Reserves
Angel Reese, Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray were chosen by coaches as reserves, giving Atlanta three All-Stars for the fourth time.
On Tuesday, the WNBA announced 12 All-Star reserves for the July 25 game in Chicago, with Atlanta Dream players Angel Reese, Rhyne Howard, and Allisha Gray filling three of the spots selected by the league's 15 head coaches.
Unlike the fan-voted starters, head coaches selected reserves without voting for their own players. Reese had previously criticized the starting lineup omissions, calling the exclusion of her teammates "a slap in the face."
Los Angeles Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike earned her 11th All-Star nod, tying Diana Taurasi for second-most appearances in WNBA history. First-time All-Star Marina Mabrey of the Toronto Tempo also joined the roster.
Marking the league's 30th anniversary season, WNBA legends Cynthia Cooper and Teresa Weatherspoon will serve as honorary general managers. They will draft the two teams from the pool of 22 All-Stars at the United Center.
Despite a lower leg injury, Kelsey Plum remains on the roster as a notable selection. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert will determine if a replacement player is necessary if Plum cannot participate in the July 25 contest.
