According to the gendarmerie, the network transported several hundred people in an irregular situation from Madagascar to Mayotte every month and exploited some young, isolated and vulnerable women by forcing them to prostitute themselves.
On Monday, 15 September, the prosecutor of the Republic of Mamoudzou reported on the dismantling of a criminal network involved in illegal immigration and trafficking in human beings. Sixteen persons were held in police custody, twelve were held in pre-trial detention.
A major police operation led to the arrest of 16 people during the night of September 7-8, announced Public Prosecutor Guillaume Dupont. The searches resulted in the seizure of €5,875, a vehicle, boat engines, and weapons.
