Safeguarding Group to Carry Out DUP Review over Donaldson
Jim Gamble will lead the independent probe, which will examine what the party knew about allegations involving Jeffrey Donaldson and review safeguarding policies.
On Thursday, the Democratic Unionist Party commissioned the iNEQE Safeguarding Group to conduct an "Independent Focused Safeguarding Review" into former leader Jeffrey Donaldson's time in the party, led by Jim Gamble.
Last month, Donaldson was convicted at Newry Crown Court of 18 historic child sex abuse charges involving two victims, including one count of rape, and remains in custody awaiting sentencing.
Terms of reference require the team to "establish what, if any, information was known within the party about his conduct" and examine safeguarding arrangements while making recommendations for good practice.
Political rivals question what senior figures knew about Donaldson's conduct, though the DUP reiterated it "never received any report or complaint regarding improper behaviour" before his arrest.
Current DUP leader Gavin Robinson pledged the investigation "won't leave any stone unturned," confirming the review will be conducted entirely independent of the DUP to ensure objective oversight.
