Disclose Nigeria's external debt-service schedule for second quarter - Atiku to Tinubu govt

- On Saturday, ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar charged the Debt Management Office to disclose Nigeria's external debt-service schedule for Q2 2026, issuing the demand through Director of Strategic Communications Phrank Shaibu.
- The DMO's Q2 2026 records revealed $22.5 million in charges against a First Abu Dhabi Bank Total Return Swap and about $8.97 million against Deutsche Bank AG, with ₦19.48 trillion in outstanding Treasury Bills as of June 30, 2026.
- Atiku demanded clarification on the $22.5 million charge, insisting Nigerians deserve 'the terms and supporting documentation,' while public debt surged from ₦49.85 trillion in March 2023 to ₦166.79 trillion by June 2026.
- Linking debt to economic hardship, Atiku characterized the Tinubu administration as creating 'two Nigerias'—one where citizens struggle with 'punishingly expensive' living costs after fuel subsidy removal, another where the wealthy protect fortunes.
- President Tinubu must identify old debt newly recorded, foreign debt revalued by exchange rates, and all new loans contracted, Atiku expects, while showing what was repaid and reconciling all Treasury Bill transactions.
