Gov. Polis Declares Disaster Emergency for Crosho Fire as Evacuation Orders Issued in Routt County
Governor Jared Polis authorized state and federal assistance to combat the Crosho fire, which destroyed at least five homes and forced evacuations in Rio Blanco and Routt counties.
- A disaster declaration was issued Wednesday for the Crosho fire, activating state plans and support via the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, according to Polis’s office.
- On Monday, the Crosho fire ignited in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest in northeast Rio Blanco County before crossing into Routt County, with its origin remaining unknown.
- Emergency crews on the Crosho fire, currently at 1,700 acres, can now access state and federal resources, according to Polis’s office.
- On Wednesday, Routt County issued more evacuation notices west of Yampa impacting about 30 homes and set up an evacuation center at South Routt Elementary School.
- The National Weather Service declared a Red Flag Warning through 10 p.m. Thursday and a Fire Weather Watch through 10 p.m. Friday for western Colorado.
