WAWABILITY Honors ADA’s 35th Anniversary at The Anthem
UNITED STATES, JUL 10 – Disability Pride Month honors the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and highlights ongoing disability rights efforts amid widespread ableism, with 70 million U.S. adults reporting disabilities.
- In July 2025, WAWABILITY organized a two-night celebration at The Anthem to mark three and a half decades since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, featuring performances by artists with disabilities.
- The ADA, signed into law on July 26, 1990 by President George H.W. Bush, was passed to prohibit discrimination against people with disabilities and improve accessibility.
- Despite this landmark law, widespread access barriers remain, including obstructed curb cuts and challenges in healthcare, travel, and public spaces, affecting daily lives of disabled people.
- The leader of Paralyzed Veterans of America highlighted that without proper enforcement, disability laws lack effectiveness, underscoring the persistent challenges faced in ensuring accessibility.
