Anna Rosa Bartolotta, four years old, died with diphtheria in Palermo after her parents refused vaccination on the grounds of autism. The prosecution accuses her parents of murder for negligence. Scientific studies categorically deny any causal relationship between vaccines and autism, confirming the safety of child immunization.

The Italian National Institute of Health (ISS) has confirmed that the samples from the child who died at the Children's Hospital in Palermo are positive for diphtheria.
