NJ’s Anne Hathaway Urges People to Give Tom Cruise’s ‘Digger ...
Hathaway praised the satirical comedy and urged viewers to decide for themselves after its $20 million global opening, despite mixed reviews.
On Oct 7, Anne Hathaway awarded Tom Cruise's dark comedy Digger five stars in her first written Letterboxd review. The satire, directed by Alejandro, features Cruise as an oil tycoon.
Despite mixed professional reviews, the film holds a 73% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, while Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian called it 'the most disappointing film of the year.'
Writing on the platform, Hathaway praised the satirical comedy as 'smart and trippy and aggressive and funny and ambitious,' encouraging moviegoers to 'make the time see and decide for yourself what you make of it.'
Following the film's lackluster box office debut, Cruise posted on Instagram that he was 'so honored to have had the opportunity to create this film alongside such talented artists.'
Hathaway's thriller Verity, co-starring Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, earned approximately $32 million in North America during its Oct 2 opening weekend, competing directly with Digger at the box office.
The actress, who will star alongside her colleague in the sequel of Days of Thunder, said the film directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu is “smart, fun and ambitious”
