ATC Grants 10-Day Remand of Key Suspect in Quetta 'Honour Killing' Case
BALOCHISTAN, PAKISTAN, JUL 22 – The court extended the remand of tribal leader Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai amid ongoing investigations into the double murder, with 11 suspects arrested and forensic evidence being gathered.
- On July 21, 2025, a Quetta Anti-Terrorism Court prolonged the detention of tribal chief Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai by 10 days in connection with the honour killing of a couple in the Degari area near Quetta.
- The couple, Bano Bibi and Ehsan Ullah, were shot dead three days before Eid ul Adha following a local tribal jirga order, and the case was registered under murder and terrorism laws amid ongoing police raids.
- A widely shared video depicted the brutal murder of a couple in a remote desert, revealing the woman was struck by seven gunshots and the man by nine, triggering public outrage and resulting in multiple arrests, including that of the victim’s mother, Gul Jan.
- Prominent religious leaders urged authorities and the courts to hold all responsible parties accountable, stressing that unjust killings cannot be pardoned under Sharia law, even if forgiveness is sought by family members. Meanwhile, the Balochistan Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution condemning honour killings as barbaric acts that contradict the region’s cultural, religious, and moral values.
- Authorities continue to detain suspects and conduct raids as Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti vowed legal action, stressing the state stands with victims and will not spare anyone involved in this heinous offence.
