The CDU politician Wilhelm Gebhard urged early on not to increase the members' diets this year. Now he has asserted himself. Here Gebhard explains why he considers high references to MdBs to be fair in principle.
If the members of the Bundestag renounce a diet increase, this is a victory for the populists. In this case, they do not only come from the AfD.
In the CDU/CSU group, there is great resistance to the automatic increase in diets. The fact that this is to come nevertheless has to do with a special consideration. In the SPD there are doubts about the stability of the Union.
Members of the Bundestag are not expected to get higher diets. Ministers, chancellors and parliamentarians receive so much money at the moment.
The increase of the Bundestag diets is expected to be suspended. A large majority in parliament supports the decision.
As of 1 July, the remuneration of the members of the Bundestag will automatically increase by 4.2 percent. Perhaps a false signal, says Union Group leader Spahn. That's why this year is probably different.
