Did Gophers coach P.J. Fleck run up the score on Eastern Illinois?
Gophers coach P.J. Fleck had a lengthy postgame handshake and conversation with Eastern Illinois coach Chris Wilkerson after Minnesota's 59-7 win to clarify intentions about running up the score.
Fleck told Wilkerson he was not running up the score when Minnesota scored a late touchdown with 29 seconds left despite already leading by a large margin.
Fleck explained that he played many players to give them experience and emphasized there was no intent to embarrass the opponent.
The Gophers used 87 players total in the game, including 27 freshmen making their college debuts.
