Diamondbacks veteran Carlos Santana suffers setback in injury rehab
Arizona will keep the 40-year-old first baseman on the injured list after he re-injured the adductor in seven rehab games.
On Monday, Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Carlos Santana suffered a rehab setback, forcing his return to Arizona for further evaluation after re-injuring his right adductor, manager Torey Lovullo confirmed.
Santana has been sidelined since April 5 after exiting an Atlanta Braves game with an adductor strain, struggling offensively with a.083 batting average across eight games before the injury.
During his Triple-A Reno rehab assignment, Santana "felt a twinge" on Saturday while playing for the Reno Aces, hitting 3-for-25 over seven games before being pulled from Sunday's contest.
Lovullo faces a continued roster puzzle with commitments to Ildemaro Vargas and rookie Jose Fernandez in the lineup, leaving the team's infield configuration unchanged despite Santana's anticipated reserve role.
No official timetable exists for Santana's return as the Diamondbacks continue their Texas Rangers series in Arlington, with upcoming matchups against the Rangers and Colorado Rockies this week.
