Diablo: Blizzard Entertainment, Netflix Developing Animated Series
Blizzard said the Diablo adaptation is the first of several planned screen projects as it expands its entertainment business beyond games.
On Saturday, Blizzard Entertainment President Johanna Faries announced during BlizzCon 2026's opening ceremony at the Anaheim Convention Center that an animated Diablo series is in development at Netflix.
The announcement coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Diablo franchise, as Blizzard Entertainment expands its brand beyond video games into streaming content partnerships.
Set in the dark world of Sanctuary, the series explores the eternal conflict between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, following Microsoft's $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023.
Netflix continues its push into gaming adaptations, having previously released series based on Castlevania, Tomb Raider, and Sonic the Hedgehog, while reports suggest Xbox intends to increase its Hollywood presence.
Blizzard President Johanna Faries teased that projects based on Overwatch and Warcraft are also in the works, with Blizzard stating the Diablo adaptation is "only the beginning" for its various universes.
