DFAT investigating claims ex-ADF soldier killed in Ukraine
DFAT is verifying claims that the former Australian Army medic died in combat after posting footage from the front line.
- The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is investigating reports that a former Australian Army soldier, known as Mozzie, was killed in Ukraine.
- Mozzie served as a combat medic with Med Team Alpha, a unit controlled by Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, and featured in a recruitment video for the International Legionnaires two months ago.
- Two social media accounts representing foreign fighters identified the man as recently dying in combat, though officials were unable to reach the soldier for comment on Monday evening.
- At least 14 Australians have now been killed in the Ukraine-Russia conflict, while the total number of foreigners killed on the Ukrainian side is estimated to be between 600 and 1000.
- Other Australians including Samuel Michael Pedrazzini from Lismore in the Northern Rivers were killed earlier this year, while Oscar Jenkins remains a prisoner of Russia after being captured serving for Ukraine.
