Vietnam Approves Radical Consolidation of Provinces and Major Cities

Parliament approved with almost unanimous vote the administrative reform that in fact strengthens the position of the current Vietnamese leadership, which emerged winner of the internal confrontation pursued with the anti-corruption campaign "burning furnace." In a country of 101 million inhabitants will remain only 28 provinces and 6 municipalities under the direct control of the central government for the big cities.

On June 12, with 461/465 National Assembly delegates participating in the vote, the National Assembly passed the Resolution on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units in 2025. The whole country officially has 34 provinces and cities.
