Ukraine to Send Captured Russian T-72s to Museums

Ukraine will give captured Russian T-72 tanks to museums in five European countries, and officials said the displays will help document Moscow’s war.

  • The Ukrainian Cabinet approved a framework to transfer captured Russian T-72 tanks to museums in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Denmark, and the Netherlands, providing foreign audiences with physical evidence of equipment used during the invasion.
  • Developed jointly by The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Culture, the program ensures vehicles are rendered non-operational and cleared of explosives before distribution to partner museums.
  • According to The Ministry of Defence, displaying captured equipment overseas provides objective information about Ukraine's struggle while sustaining international support and documenting Russia's aggression and the material consequences of the conflict.
  • Separately, Kyiv has established TrophyLab, a government portal providing international researchers access to technical information and captured Russian weapons systems, distinct from the museum program which utilizes vehicles no longer suitable for combat.
  • On August 13, drone operators from the Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade destroyed two Russian Msta-S howitzers in the Vovchansk area, demonstrating Ukrainian forces' continued targeting of Russian military equipment on the battlefield.
