Despite federal funding in 2022, West Virginia finally funds flood studies

WEST VIRGINIA, AUG 10 – The study follows federal funding secured in 2021 and aims to improve flood risk management after 23 deaths and $342 million in damages from nearly 2,300 flood events since 2005.

Nearly a decade after the deadly 2016 floods, West Virginia officials are moving forward with a study to look at flood mitigation measures across the Kanawha River Basin.  Last month, Gov.
