Texas Football Nabs Major Recruit in John Meredith III
The five-star cornerback chose the Longhorns over Texas A&M while a district committee ruled him ineligible for his senior season.
On Friday, five-star cornerback John Meredith III announced his commitment to Texas, choosing the Longhorns over in-state finalist Texas A&M following official visits to both programs.
A district athletic committee ruled Meredith ineligible for his senior season on a 5-2 vote, citing a transfer for athletic purposes from Euless Trinity to North Crowley in January.
Sources indicate Meredith is expected to appeal the ineligibility decision; Texas cornerbacks coach Mark Orphey and defensive coordinator Will Muschamp were central to securing his pledge.
The Longhorns currently hold the No. 12 class in the 2027 cycle with 15 commitments, including recent pledges from outside linebacker Jabarrius Garror and defensive lineman Kasi Currie.
Despite settling his college destination, Meredith's senior season status remains uncertain pending the outcome of his appeal; he previously participated in the 2026 Under Armour All-American Game.
