More than 40 South African Nationals Deported From Ireland
The operation was the fourth charter deportation flight this year and cost the State an initial €735,000, officials said.
Justice Minister Jim Callaghan oversaw the deportation of 42 South African nationals from Ireland yesterday on a chartered flight to Johannesburg, marking the fourth such operation this year.
Deportation Orders are 'an essential requirement' for Ireland's immigration system, Callaghan stated, emphasizing a rules-based approach to maintain public confidence in enforcement.
The State spent €735,000 to transport 27 adults and 15 juveniles from family groups, including two individuals convicted of offences in this jurisdiction.
Deportation orders reached 2,108 this year, following 4,700 last year, representing a 96 per cent increase compared to 2024.
Minister of State Colm Brophy noted that migrants play an important role in Ireland but must 'enter through the various legal pathways available and abide by the laws of the State.
