- On Monday, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston unveiled 2026 priorities at La Alma Recreation Center, including cutting street homelessness 75% from 2023 and filling 3 million vacant downtown square feet.
- Following prior emergency actions, Johnston declared a July 2023 state of emergency and the city has spent more than $155 million on shelters and services to house the homeless.
- For 2026, the city aims to decrease gun-related homicides by 10% and reduce shootings in high-risk areas by 20%, after a 57% drop in homicides and 37 total in 2025.
- The city will sync outreach teams, 911, and 3 to respond within one business day, Johnston said, `My job is to protect all our residents, and to be clear that they know we will have their back and support them,` Johnston said.
- For revitalization, the mayor envisions installing 5,000 clean-energy systems, developing 50 acres of green infrastructure, expanding childcare and youth programs, and said it's `a golden moment of recovery and revitalization.
