Demolition Derby Injures Nine, One Fighting for Life
- At about 6.15pm on Saturday, a derby car crashed through a fence at Walcha showground, injuring nine spectators, police said.
- Officers attached to Oxley Police District said the 27-year-old speedway car driver was involved in an on-track collision moments before his vehicle lost control.
- NSW Ambulance paramedics took seven men and two women aged between 20 and 75 to Walcha District Hospital, while a 54-year-old man with critical injuries and three others are expected to be moved overnight.
- Police have launched an investigation and appealed for footage and witnesses, with the Crash Investigation Unit and Oxley Police cordoning off the area and combing the scene overnight.
- NSW MP Brendan Moylan said those injured had been taken to hospital and thanked emergency crews, stating `Thank you so much to the ambos, the police, the SES and everyone involved for their swift and incredibly professional work at the scene`.
