Delta worker dies at Orlando International Airport, officials say
Delta said one departure was canceled and affected customers were rebooked after the airport paused operations during the investigation.
A Delta Air Lines worker died Thursday evening at Orlando International Airport after an aircraft towing vehicle, known as a tug, struck a passenger boarding bridge.
The incident occurred at 10:55 p.m. involving Delta Flight 2593, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, which confirmed no aircraft were involved in the collision.
Passengers aboard the flight deplaned via the rear door and airstairs after the jet bridge was damaged. Orlando Police Department investigators believe the death was "accidental" in nature.
Delta paused operations at the airport, resulting in the cancellation of one flight, while the airline stated "safety is our number one core value, and Delta will work with all stakeholders to investigate what occurred."
Greater Orlando Aviation Authority spokesperson Angela Starke expressed that the MCO community is "deeply saddened" by the loss, though identifying information about the worker remained unavailable as of yesterday morning.
