Police said the gang may have trafficked at least 30 infants and sold babies for up to ₹8 lakh each.
On Thursday, June 18, 2026, the Delhi Police busted an inter-state child trafficking racket, arresting 13 individuals and rescuing five infants from a private facility in Begumpur.
Investigators uncovered the scheme after a Paharganj resident reported suspicious activity on June 5, prompting police to launch a decoy operation near Ashram Metro Station.
During questioning, suspects identified Heera Multi Speciality Hospital owner Viveki as the "kingpin," alleging he forged birth certificates and medical records to facilitate illegal adoptions.
The syndicate allegedly purchased infants for up to ₹2 lakh and sold them for up to ₹8 lakh, with additional children rescued from Panipat, Haryana, and Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
All five rescued infants are under the care of the Child Welfare Committee, while police continue tracing additional buyers and biological parents as the network may have trafficked at least 30 infants.
