Delays of up to 90 minutes expected as abnormal load travels on major motorway
National Highways says the convoy will travel at 20 to 25 mph and hold traffic at structures as one lane remains open.
On Monday, October 12, specialist transport company Allelys is moving the final of three 25-tonne industrial silos northbound along the M5, escorted by regional police from Avonmouth toward the West Midlands.
National Highways warned that the 23-metre-long vehicle will crawl at speeds between 20 and 25 mph, restricting northbound travel to one lane as it passes through Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.
The transport vehicles must stop and lower the silo at specific structures along the route to accommodate height limits, during which National Highways will hold northbound traffic to allow the build-up to pass.
Motorists face significant delays estimated between 60 and 90 minutes throughout the operation concentrated between junctions 8 and 2 on the northbound carriageway.
This journey marks the conclusion of the three-silo transport operation, with previous movements occurring on October 2 and October 9, as the convoy reaches its destination near Birmingham.
