The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) will investigate, together with Defence, how the barracks site in Budel can be used jointly from 2028. The site currently houses an asylum seekers' centre, one of the largest in the country. Defence wants to put the site back into full use in the period 2028-2033.
The Cranendonck asylum center in Budel will close its doors by 2028 at the latest. The current reception location, housed in the Nassau-Dietz Barracks, will then be taken back into use by the Ministry of Defence. Government sources confirm this to the NOS.
