India Approves Buying $5.46 Billion in Military Equipment
The approvals cover tank protection, air defence and drone systems as the ministry said AoNs are only the first step in procurement.
On Friday, the Defence Acquisition Council cleared approximately Rs 52,000 crore in military procurement proposals for India's Armed Forces, aiming to address critical operational gaps.
The Defence Acquisition Council met Friday after a three-month hiatus to bolster India's defence preparedness amid evolving security challenges along its borders.
Procurement plans include Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile systems, Active Protection Systems for tanks, and Fixed-Wing Based High Altitude Pseudo Satellites for the Air Force, with deals following 'Buy ' and 'Buy ' categories.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called the approvals a "landmark decision" that will strengthen India's defence capabilities and boost the domestic industry, enhancing operational preparedness.
Further details regarding specific platforms and vendors are expected in the coming weeks, as an Acceptance of Necessity is only the first step in the procurement process and does not guarantee a final order.
