"My Wife and I Are Godparents to Soludo's Children, We Are Close"
Obi said he left no debt and saved about $150 million, while urging governors to protect democracy and avoid blocking opposition campaigns.
On Friday, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi addressed the Nigerian Guild of Editors, denying claims his administration left $123.7 million in debt and asserting he left over $150 million in savings.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti, former CEO of Diamond Bank, corroborated the savings during an Arise News interview, confirming Obi invested $155 million in state funds during his tenure.
Obi clarified the $123.7 million were concessionary development-support funds from the World Bank and IFAD, not conventional commercial loans he personally secured during his tenure.
Dismissing reports of friction, Obi stated, "I and my wife are godparents to Soludo's children," affirming no disagreement with current Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo.
Urging governors to allow democratic freedom, Obi stated his focus remains on "existential challenges confronting Nigeria" rather than engaging in political disputes over his past tenure.
