Suicide bombing in Pakistan kills 15, including 12 soldiers, army says
Security forces killed 12 attackers after the assault on a joint police check post left 15 personnel and a government official dead, ISPR said.
- On Thursday night, terrorists attacked a joint police check post in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's Tank district, killing 15 personnel, including 12 military members, two police officers, and one Forest Department official, the Inter-Services Public Relations reported on Friday.
- Militants belonging to the "Indian-sponsored Fitna al Khwarij" rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall after security forces "swiftly and decisively foiled" their initial breach attempt, according to the military.
- Troops pursued fleeing attackers, killing 12 militants while "displaying unwavering courage and professional excellence." A sanitization operation remains underway to eliminate any remaining threats, the ISPR added.
- Tank Deputy Commissioner Jamshed Khan imposed Section 144 and a district-wide curfew, restricting movement from 6am to 6pm to manage the security situation. Emergency services remain exempt from restrictions.
- Pakistan security agencies will continue the "Azm-e-Istehkam" campaign to "wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored terrorism," military officials stated. Sacrifices of the fallen personnel "further reinforce our unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation at all costs.
