Death of man inside truck on Hwy5A near Princeton investigated as homicide
OKANAGAN-SIMILKAMEEN, BRITISH COLUMBIA, JUL 22 – Kyle Schmunk, 41, was found dead in his vehicle on Highway 5A; police are seeking public tips to clarify the circumstances of the homicide.
- On July 21, Princeton RCMP responded to a report of a man inside a brown 2002 Toyota Corolla on Highway 5A north of Princeton, where they found him suffering gunshot wounds.
- Authorities identified the victim as 41-year-old Kyle Schmunk, who succumbed to his injuries despite life-saving efforts provided by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics.
- Investigators from the Evidence Detection Unit and Division’s Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the scene, and Staff Sgt. Jason Smart said MCU investigators are seeking public assistance regarding Schmunk’s July 21 movements.
- Anyone with information regarding Schmunk, the brown 2002 Toyota Corolla, dashcam footage or video surveillance from Highway 5A north of Princeton between 12 and 3 p.m. on July 21 is asked to contact the RCMP, and those with other tips can reach the Southeast District Major Crime Unit’s information line at 1-877-987-8477.
- The probe remains active, and the BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit continues investigating Schmunk’s death.
