Deadly Crash Causing Backups on I-75 Northbound in Marion County

The pickup driver, a 42-year-old Eustis man, died after the truck crossed lanes, struck a guardrail and overturned, troopers said.

  • On Friday, July 31, a 42-year-old Eustis man died when his pickup truck struck a guardrail on I-75 near mile marker 366 in Marion County at 6 a.m. The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the fatal crash, which closed all northbound lanes.
  • According to troopers, the pickup was traveling southbound when it crossed all three lanes and struck the guardrail. The truck overturned, ejecting the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, into the outside northbound lane.
  • Traffic management forced an initial full closure of northbound lanes to manage the scene and clear debris. Motorists were diverted off the interstate at mile marker 357 near State Road 326 during the morning commute.
  • Marion County Fire Rescue crews cleared portions of the roadway following the accident, opening two northbound lanes by 6:43 a.m. All northbound lanes fully reopened by 7:27 a.m., restoring traffic flow.
  • The fatal crash remains under investigation by FHP Homicide Investigators. The northbound on-ramp from State Road 326 remains temporarily closed, and a left shoulder on I-75 southbound is blocked near mile marker 366 as crews finish working the area.
