‘Days of Our Lives’ Shakeup: Former Co-Head Writer Returns to NBC Soap
Ryan Quan returns to the soap after nearly two decades, joining Jeanne Marie Ford as co-head writer while Paula Cwikly shifts to consultant.
Ryan Quan, most recently a breakdown writer at General Hospital, will join Jeanne Marie Ford as co-head writer for Days of Our Lives beginning in July 2026.
Quan spent nearly two decades in various writing roles at Days, building expertise in the show's characters and legacy before joining General Hospital in 2025 following Ron Carlivati's 2024 departure.
Current co-head writer Paula Cwikly will transition to a consultant role, while executive producer Ken Corday praised Quan's deep knowledge, saying, "There are very few people who have such a deep knowledge and understanding of our show's history."
Episodes written by the new team are expected to air in mid-2027, as NBCUniversal Media Chairman Matt Strauss announced Peacock is poised to turn a profit this quarter, underscoring continued corporate backing for the long-running drama.
Reflecting on their creative partnership, former head writer Ron Carlivati said he frequently asked, "Ryan, do you want this job?" The pair previously won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing Team in 2022.
